Frequently Asked Questions

Are sessions confidential and private even though they are conducted via telephone or video?

Sessions are all conducted in a closed office, as would occur if you and I were in the same room. Privacy and confidentiality are kept to the highest professional standards. Records are kept in secure files as required by law.

What can I expect during the first session?

You will be invited to talk about what brought you to counseling, and your hopes and expectations for our work together. Any questions you have regarding counseling will be addressed.

How long is each session?

Sessions are 60 minutes long.

How many sessions will I need?

Some clients choose short-term therapy to explore specific issues. This is typically 8 to 10 sessions. Others choose an open-ended approach, re-evaluating their needs to continue as therapy progresses. Ultimately, the duration of any counseling cycle is determined by the motivation, needs and goals of the client. Through counseling, the client builds the resources, which continue to grow outside the confines of the counseling process.

What about cancellations?

It is expected that 24 hours cancellation notice will be given by all clients. Sessions that are not attended or cancelled without prior notice will be billed at the normal hourly fee.
